Typhoon Dolphin battered eastern China with powerful winds and torrential rain on Sunday, making two landfalls in Zhejiang Province and flooding residential areas in Yueqing. China’s National Meteorological Centre said the storm brought maximum sustained winds of 42 metres per second during its first landfall near Yuhuan in Taizhou before striking Yueqing with winds of about 38 metres per second. More than one million people were moved to safety across eastern China and around 1,400 flights were cancelled in Shanghai.
