Colombia has declared a state of emergency following a powerful earthquake that caused more 100 deaths and flattened dozens of buildings, trapping more victims underneath. The 7.4-magnitude quake struck western Colombia late Monday and triggered a frantic search for survivors in several cities. Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella, appointed just three days ago, reported 111 deaths, 87 people injured and over 1,000 buildings damaged. “The first order of business is to rescue the people trapped under the rubble. That is the priority: to rescue the people who are still trapped under the rubble." the president said during a press conference from the nation's capital Bogotá.
