The White House's own fact sheet defending the tariffs on Canada makes a specific claim: in May 2026, US manufacturing grew at its fastest rate in four years, "nearly tripling expectations." That's true. It's also missing almost everything the number actually contains. The same official ISM Manufacturing PMI report shows Employment contracting the exact month the headline hit a four-year high. The Prices Index hit a 19-month high in April. In June — the "sixth straight month of growth" the fact sheet cites — the PMI actually FELL from 54% to 53.3%. Growth didn't accelerate into a sixth month. It slowed into one.
