Immunotherapy is an incredible new cancer treatment that works by helping our own immune systems to fight cancer. The talk will cover the progress made with this treatment so far, the challenges that remain, and what cancer researchers are doing to overcome them. It reveals what this shift means for the future of cancer care, and why it could reshape how we treat cancer. Dr Ellie is a scientist working in cancer research. Her work mainly focuses on improving the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. In particular, she is interested in understanding why some people respond well to immunotherapy treatment, and why others do not. Initially trained as a mathematician, Ellie then sought to apply her computational skills to biomedical problems. After gaining a PhD from the University of Manchester, Ellie worked as a postdoctoral scientist in Stockholm, Sweden, where her work focused on identifying biomarkers for the early detection of Parkinson’s disease.
