Russia’s share of India’s crude oil imports hit an all-time high of 48% in June 2026, even as the United States moves closer to imposing tariffs of up to 100% on countries buying Russian oil and gas. India imported 8.7 million metric tonnes of Russian crude in June, while overall crude imports fell sharply. The UAE also recorded a historic 17.5% share, meaning Russia and the UAE together accounted for nearly two-thirds of India’s oil imports. The U.S. Senate has passed a Bill proposing tariffs of up to 100% on major buyers of Russian oil. The legislation now awaits consideration in the House of Representatives.
