The murder of former MP and Reform UK figure Ann Widdecombe has renewed concerns about the safety of Britain’s politicians. With threats and abuse increasing, questions are being asked about whether all 650 MPs should be offered close protection and whether Britain could afford it. David Bull and security specialist Will Geddes discuss the dangers politicians face, the intrusion caused by round-the-clock protection and how toxic rhetoric online can develop into a genuine physical threat. After the interview, Bull reads a listener’s warning that illegal immigration, the trans-rights row, “two-tier policing”, rising taxes, benefits, antisemitism and net zero are pushing Britain towards civil unrest. Bull also asks whether major departures from Labour’s election manifesto should trigger a general election and criticises Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s move to the left and prospect of further tax rises. Presenter David Bull speaks with security specialist Will Geddes. #news #politics #r
