Shadow Justice Minister Kieran Mullan, Conservative MP for Bexhill and Battle, has welcomed the Government’s decision to prevent PC Andrew Harper’s killers from being released early, but accused ministers of creating uncertainty for victims’ families. Speaking after Angela Rayner confirmed that the killers and other serious offenders would be exempted from Labour’s early-release scheme, the Conservative MP argued that murderers, rapists, paedophiles and other violent criminals should never qualify for reduced prison time. Mullan called for more prison capacity, the deportation of foreign offenders and, if necessary, the rental of prison places overseas. Have you got a story?
