Young volunteer attempts to save humpback whale stranded on Queensland beach

Chantelle Smith was with her daughter Sunday morning on K'gari when they came across a stranded juvenile humpback whale. The juvenile mammal became trapped on a sandbank at the southern entrance of Wathumba Creek, sparking an immediate rescue effort from local beachgoers and wildlife authorities. A spokesperson for the Department of Environment confirmed that the whale managed to self-release and was able to return to the ocean. #kgari #humpbackwhale #whales #queensland
