Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al-Ansari said Monday that Oman-Iran negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz had reached a "critical juncture," calling the restoration of free navigation through the strait "the minimum requirement" and warning that the waterway must not become "a tool for political blackmail in the future, as has been the case during this crisis." Al-Ansari said Qatar supported Oman's de-escalation efforts and backed any agreement that guaranteed Hormuz security, while adding that any future arrangements on fees or management of the strait would require full regional consensus and respect for international law.
