Broadcast on 12/08/2026 Imagine bringing your newborn daughter home after a long and difficult birth, expecting those first weeks to be exhausting but joyful - and instead finding that the sound of her crying is triggering such intense anger that you become frightened by your own thoughts. That’s what happened to 35-year-old Steve Sharman after his daughter Florence was born on August 16, 2023. Over the following weeks, he says Florence’s crying began triggering anger that he tried to hide. Then the thoughts became darker. He remembers thinking that he wanted to harm her because, in his words, he felt like he “just needed to stop the crying”.
