A survivor was pulled alive from the rubble in Cali on Tuesday, a day after a powerful earthquake struck Colombia. Emergency crews rescued the person from a collapsed building as crowds cheered and celebrated the dramatic rescue. The 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia’s coffee-growing region early Monday, destroying or severely damaging apartment buildings, homes, schools and health centres. Rescuers continued searching through the debris for people who could still be alive. Red Cross rescuer Jose Fernando Usma said there was still a significant chance of finding survivors because people could remain alive in isolated air pockets or protected spaces.
