African American Music Appreciation Month, or 'Black Music Month', was established in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter. The American music landscape has been shaped by the creativity of African American musicians. Popular or "pop" music is the fusion between European orchestral with African drums and rhythm. The first original American popular music art form was jazz, not blues. Henry Mosley and the H-Town Orchestra present the African American music experience through popular songs. Henry Mosley is a professional musician and is retired from the U.S. Department of Justice. He has invested his time and talent in grooming young musicians in the performing arts. His mentoring repertoire includes orchestral, jazz, funk, disco, and chamber music. Henry has stage-managed performances for neo-opera, big band, gospel and orchestra.
