Britain is preparing for its most significant solar eclipse since 1999, with more than 90% of the Sun expected to be obscured across much of the country. Space Park Leicester’s Josh Barker said the deep partial eclipse would bring a noticeable drop in light and temperature, while parts of Spain and Iceland experience totality. Barker warned viewers not to look directly at the Sun and recommended using undamaged eclipse glasses certified to the ISO 12312-2 safety standard. A colander or pinhole projector can also be used to view the event indirectly. He said: “Your eyes are delicate, your eyes are precious. Even if people think they can catch a quick glimpse, it’s not worth it.” Scientists will use the eclipse to study the Sun’s corona, while everyone else enjoys the rare spectacle of the solar system literally throwing shade.
