Annunziata Rees-Mogg has accused Andy Burnham’s Government of failing to tackle the incentives driving illegal Channel crossings as increasingly large boats arrive in Britain. The Head of Communications at Popular Conservatism criticised Burnham’s suggestion that all parts of the country should “play their part” in accommodating asylum seekers, arguing that spreading people between more communities would not solve the border crisis. She warned that people-smuggling gangs could make enormous profits from overcrowded vessels carrying hundreds of passengers and said successive governments had failed to stop the crossings. Annunziata said: “What he has to do, there is no other way about it, is scrap the incentives to come here and stop the boats.” Have you got a story?
