The Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of a tense dispute between Washington and Tehran. In an interview with Al Jazeera, senior research fellow Abas Aslani said control of the waterway is tied to wider issues of sanctions, war and economic pressure. He argues the US wants to reopen the strait while keeping pressure tools in place. Iran, meanwhile, seeks sanctions relief, oil sales and an end to the conflict.
