A larger controversy has arisen from Sophie Cunningham’s comments about preserving female-only sports for biological women: Who really can compete in the WNBA? Last week, Royce White and Enes Freedom, two former NBA players, declared for the 2027 WNBA draft. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert sent a memo to teams saying that transgender athlete participation in the league would be discussed at a meeting this week, the Associated Press reported.
