Two young Chinese mathematicians, Wang Hong and Deng Yu, have just won Fields Medals, the highest honor in mathematics. And in China, the reaction has been extraordinary. At the ongoing International Congress of Basic Science here in Beijing, you can almost feel the excitement in the air. Mathematics, once seen as the ultimate abstract pursuit, has suddenly become a source of national pride – and perhaps, more importantly, a new source of inspiration for young people. On this, hear from Professor Shing-Tung Yau, chair of the International Congress of Basic Science and the first Fields Medalist of Chinese origin. He is joined by Xuhua He, vice president of the International Mathematical Union, who also talks about mathematics, talent and what makes a great mathematician. 📺 Subscribe to our YouTube channel and stay updated with our latest analysis and interviews:👇 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgrNz-aDmcr2uuto8_DL2jg 👈 Download our APP on Apple Store (iOS): https://itunes.apple.
