Extreme heat warning expanded as hospitals warn of "INHUMANE" conditions

The Royal College of Nursing says it's members are working in impossible and inhumane conditions because of the extreme heat and has called for urgent action to protect patients and staff. Today is expected to be the hottest day of the year with temperatures set to reach 38 degrees in parts of England as the as the fifth heatwave of 2026 peaks. An extreme heat warning has been expanded to areas further west until midnight. Rare amber warnings for “extreme heat” have been issued throughout the UK as the fith heatwave of 2026 peaks, with the highest temperatures expected in the Midlands, east and south east. Health services, fire crews and water companies continue to struggle with the hot and dry weather. The NHS says A&E departments are experiencing their busiest simmer ever because of the heat, with almost 2.5 million people attending A&E in each of last three months.
