Millions gathered across Spain on 12 August 2026 for the country’s first total solar eclipse in more than a century, as daylight briefly disappeared along the path of totality. Speaking with Dr David Bull from a ferry leaving Santander after watching near Burgos, Simon Calder describes the darkness, falling temperature, diamond-ring effect and emotional reaction of the crowds.
