Britain’s rewilding drive may be leaving parts of the countryside more vulnerable to devastating wildfires, a climate policy expert has warned. Harry Wilkinson, head of policy at the Global Warming Policy Foundation, said hot, dry weather creates conditions in which fires can spread—but argued that restrictions on controlled burning have allowed combustible vegetation to accumulate. Speaking after more than 1,000 reported wildfires this year, Wilkinson told Julia Hartley-Brewer: “The fire-prevention activities that would usually happen haven’t been happening.” Have you got a story?
