From an early age, Komal Singh was cast as "the studious one" top of her class, the cousin every relative held up as the example. But there was always another version of her: the girl who played every sport she could and cried when she got run out at one run, not over the trophy but because she cared that much. In this talk, she traces what happens when the two people you're told to choose between refuse to stay separate. Her path runs from a good engineering career to a mountain she saw in a movie, to a shin fracture and a diagnosis that ended her dream of climbing before it began. Told her bones might never take the load again, she rebuilt herself one race at a time learning to swim six months before a half Ironman, getting stung by a jellyfish and spraining her leg mid-race but crawling across the finish line, then completing full Ironman races in Australia and Germany, and setting a course record in the Thar Desert.
