Britain is facing its fifth heatwave of an exceptionally hot and dry summer, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 38°C (100.4°F) in parts of central and southeast England. More than two-thirds of England and the whole of Wales are experiencing drought conditions following the driest July since records began nearly two centuries ago. Around 45 million people are living in drought-affected areas, while more than 27 million face water-use restrictions. Authorities have also warned of an exceptionally high wildfire risk, while extreme heat is placing additional pressure on health services, transport and infrastructure.
