Scientists at Stanford University and the Arc Institute have trained an AI program called Evo on trillions of DNA nucleotides, enabling it to generate 16 novel, viable viruses that have never existed in nature. CGTN's Sean Callebs spoke with Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, Professor of Medicine and Infectious Disease Specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, about the implications of the breakthrough and the questions it raises. 0:00 How AI designed 16 new viruses 0:53 Can AI-designed viruses fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria? 2:17 Could AI create dangerous pathogens? 3:32 The AI biosecurity gap: Capability vs. governance 4:24 AI is outpacing biosecurity and biosafety rules 5:06 Who should regulate AI-designed biology? #bizshow #AI #DNA #viruses #biology #science #biotech Watch CGTN LIVE on your computer, tablet or mobile https://cgtnamerica.vhx.tv/videos/hd-live-broadcasts Subscribe to CGTN America on YouTube Follow CGTN America: Twitter: @cgtnamerica Facebook
