Chair of the Labour Party Bridget Phillipson has told Sky News that her party was right to not stand against Nigel Farage in the Clacton by-election. The contest was triggered by the Reform UK leader's resignation in July in protest at a parliamentary investigation into a £5m "gift" he received. Mr Farage won with 22,239 votes, which was 62.82% of the vote. The Clacton by-election was boycotted by all the other major parties.
