Labor’s net zero obsession is coming for Australian farms. Rushy Lagoon is Tasmania’s largest farm, almost 22,000 hectares of productive land. Instead of backing Australian farmers, Labor is helping a UK-based investment vehicle take it over for carbon credits. Taxpayers are being forced to fund this dirty deal, with millions funnelled through government-backed net-zero schemes while local Australian buyers were priced out. This will turn productive farmland into forest so investors can chase carbon credits while communities lose jobs, income and security. Australians should be outraged. We need farms producing beef, dairy, sheep and crops, not carbon credit schemes. Jim Chalmers must explain why Labor is sacrificing our food security and selling out Australian land to foreign investors in the name of net zero.
