At least four people were confirmed dead, while thousands were stranded at Narita Airport after transport services were suspended. Homes and cars were submerged, roads and railway lines were damaged, and evacuation orders were issued across the wider region. Soldiers were deployed to assist with relief and search efforts as authorities warned that flooding risks remained despite the rain easing. Meteorologists say extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense, with climate change identified as a contributing factor.
