A Russian drone strike hit the Ukrainian city of Smila in the central Cherkasy region overnight into Friday, damaging a nine-story apartment building and triggering a fire, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Emergency crews and firefighters were deployed to contain the blaze, evacuate residents and clear debris from damaged apartments. Ukrainian authorities said at least five people were injured in the attack.
