“I think 30 years ago, population of Manchester was about 1000 people or something in the city centre, and now it's about 100,000. So it's been an incredible transformation. But, you know, in the peripheries, at least, not all the peripheries have benefited from it.” Former England test captain and Times cricket correspondent Mike Atherton, says that there is a clear "contrast" between how the centre of Manchester has "boomed" and the lack of changes in the suburbs. Mike Atherton was speaking to Rosie Wright and Calum Macdonald on Times Radio Breakfast. Listen live every Friday-Sunday, 6am-10am.
