Nigel Farage has been elected as Clacton MP, triggering the automatic resumption of a standards inquiry into a £5m donation to the Reform UK leader. He won 62% of the vote, and a 36% majority, after having triggered the by-election in protest at media and parliamentary scrutiny of donations from his backers. He did not attend the by-election count in the town, claiming Essex Police had told him about an “organised campaign to disrupt and degrade the result”. However, ITV News understands Essex Police did not tell Mr Farage, or any other candidate, not to attend the count. • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en Follow ITV News on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on X: https://twitter.com/itvnews
