A major wildfire swept across Croatia’s southern Peljesac peninsula on Friday, driven by strong winds as around 150 firefighters and firefighting aircraft battled to contain the blaze. The fire broke out near Kuna Peljeska before spreading through grass, scrub and pine forest, with footage showing flames racing across hillsides and burning close to homes. Authorities prepared for possible evacuations as the fire advanced toward the areas of Potomje and Trstenik, while part of the DC414 road was closed to allow emergency crews to operate.
