Brazilian presidential adviser Celso Amorim says Western European officials have approached him seeking Brazil’s help in maintaining dialogue with Russia, highlighting Brasília’s position as one of the few governments able to communicate with both Moscow and the West. Speaking before Brazil’s Commission on Foreign Relations and National Defense, Amorim said Brazil rejects automatic alignment with either side of the Ukraine war and instead advocates dialogue, sovereignty and international cooperation. The outreach comes as Ukraine seeks greater US involvement to bring Russia back to full-fledged negotiations, while Russian Federation Council official Grigory Karasin has said Moscow is prepared to consider peace proposals under its stated conditions.
