The James Webb Space Telescope may have discovered the earliest known “black hole star”—a strange cosmic object that shines like a star but appears to be powered by a rapidly feeding black hole. Known formally as MoM-BH*-1, or Mom Black Hole Star One, this mysterious red object existed only 660 million years after the Big Bang. Its light contains stellar fingerprints, yet it produces far more energy than any conventional star should be capable of generating. Astronomers believe the central black hole may be buried inside an enormous, dense envelope of hydrogen comparable in scale to our Solar System. This new James Webb discovery could also explain the mysterious Little Red Dots appearing throughout JWST images of the early universe. These objects may represent a previously hidden stage in which young black holes grew rapidly inside gas cocoons before emerging as brilliant quasars. Could black hole stars solve the mystery of how supermassive black holes formed so early? Explore the e
