On August 6, Tarun Tejpal, the former editor of the investigative news magazine Tehelka, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping his junior colleague in 2013. For many, the verdict by the Bombay High Court’s Goa Bench felt like justice was finally served, 13 years later. But much of the discourse continues to be about Tejpal’s journalistic accomplishments, an alleged political vendetta against him, and whether the survivor’s account is credible.
