A Spanish F-18 fighter reportedly shot down an unidentified drone after it entered Romanian airspace during a NATO air-policing mission. Romania’s Defense Ministry said surveillance systems detected the aircraft at 4:44 a.m., roughly 24 kilometres north of Galați after it crossed from the direction of Moldova. Two Spanish F-18s were already airborne from Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base and were authorized to engage. At approximately 5:01 a.m., one fighter established radar contact and destroyed the drone. The wreckage reportedly fell in an unpopulated area between Băleni and Cudalbi, with no casualties or infrastructure damage reported.
