The first direct passenger flight from Damascus to Moscow in nearly two years landed at Sheremetyevo International Airport on Sunday, restoring an air link suspended in December 2024. Syrian Airlines representative Mahmoud said the airline had overcome bureaucratic hurdles and would seek to expand services, with the route currently operating once a week on Sundays using Airbus A320 aircraft. Passenger Rafad said the direct service had reduced the journey between Syria and Russia from almost 24 hours to less than five, while noting that additional flights would likely be needed during peak travel periods. Another passenger, Ali, said the route could also serve travellers from neighbouring Lebanon and Jordan.
