After my last video on the Middle East crisis and how it’s actually affecting Aussies, the comments were flooded with the same questions. “Why doesn’t Australia have fuel supplies?” “Doesn’t Australia have its own oil and gas?” So today, I went digging into the numbers behind our gas policy and what I found was unbelievable. Beer tax is forecast to bring in more revenue than the tax we collect on gas. WTF. We export like a gas powerhouse, but more than half of those exports attract zero royalties. Countries like Norway use gas to build trillion dollar wealth funds. We allow companies to ship billions of dollars’ worth of our gas while households cop higher bills and higher taxes to plug the gap.
