Residents of Nepal’s flood-hit Devighat town returned to their homes on Tuesday, finding streets and houses buried under mud and debris after last week’s catastrophic floods. The unprecedented deluge of ice, rock, mud and debris struck the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, sweeping through towns and villages along the Trishuli River. The disaster has killed more than 900 people, with thousands still missing. Meanwhile, rescue operations continue elsewhere, with teams searching for hundreds of workers believed to be trapped inside several hydropower project tunnels blocked by mud and rocks.
