Sandra Yarwood battled for months to clear 32 traffic fines she was sent from seven different local authorities after her number plate was cloned while she was on holiday. Dozens of violation notices appeared through her letter box after she returned from a two-week trip in Canada. The offenses, which took place across London, were said to have occurred while her VW Golf had been parked outside her home. Contesting the fines has been a “nightmare”, says the media consultant, adding that she “wasn’t believed easily”. Her number plates were cloned in June, but Sandra says she still has two £90 fines hanging over her, and was told by Lewisham Council that she needed to appear before legal tribunals in February 2027. Meanwhile, Lewisham Council has apologised to Sandra and says it is working to "improve how cloned registration plates are identified and reviewed".
