Almost 20 years ago, Claire Jarman had just given birth to her daughter, Emma, at Rotherham Hospital when a rather unexpected visitor arrived on the ward. Emma was too young to remember the moment she met Dolly Parton, but her mum certainly does. Dolly cradled one-day-old Emma in her arms and presented the newborn and her family with a signed copy of the very first UK Imagination Library book, Peter Rabbit. Emma received a book every month until she was five as part of the global icon’s scheme that donated 7 million books in the UK. Dolly Parton died on 25 August, aged 80, after “bravely facing a brief battle with cancer”. Emma, now 18, still has the signed book she was given by Dolly all those years ago, and has spoken of her sadness at the singer's death, adding, “she was such an incredible lady”.
