Vets treated an orangutan rescued from Indonesia’s forest fires after it was found weak and struggling to breathe on a palm-oil plantation in West Kalimantan. A farmer found the orangutan, later named Sampurna, lying on the ground near a fire-hit area on August 30 and called for help. Wildlife rescuers said Sampurna was suffering from hypoxia, or low oxygen levels, caused by thick smoke from the fires. A veterinarian gave the orangutan oxygen through tubes placed in its nose and fluids through an IV drip. Sampurna will be moved to a wildlife rehabilitation centre for further treatment and is expected to be released back into the wild after recovery. The wildlife foundation said it has rescued seven orangutans affected by the fires so far. --- Orangutan Rescue | Indonesia Forest Fires | Wildlife Conservation | Veterinary Care | Endangered Species | Habitat Loss | Animal Welfare | Environmental Crisis | Indonesia News | Great Ape Rehabilitation | Forest Fire Smoke | Rescue Mission
