Rival protesters faced off in Barcelona on Wednesday as tensions over Spain's handling of a migration crisis in Ceuta spilled onto the streets more than a month after a major influx from neighbouring Morocco. Pro-migration demonstrators marched under left-wing and anti-racist banners, while opposing protesters waved Spanish flags and demanded tougher controls at the border, with some directing anger at Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's government. The protests followed the July 30-31 surge into Ceuta, when the Spanish government said around 72,000 people entered the territory irregularly, most of whom later returned to Morocco. Madrid estimated that about 5,000 migrants remained in Ceuta as of August 28, including around 1,500 minors, although local authorities and opposition parties disputed the figures. The continuing presence of migrants has fuelled repeated demonstrations and heightened political tensions across Spain. #barcelona #spain #ceuta #migrationcrisis #migrantcrisis #migrat
