Residents rallied in Spain's North African territory of Ceuta on Wednesday, demanding tougher border security and greater government support following a major surge in migrant arrivals from neighbouring Morocco in late July. Demonstrators marched with Spanish flags and banners calling for the territory to be defended, while some protesters demanded a permanent security cordon along the border. Spain's government said around 72,000 people entered Ceuta irregularly on July 30 and 31, with most subsequently returning voluntarily, while Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska estimated that about 5,000 migrants remained in Ceuta as of August 28, including around 1,500 minors. Local authorities and opposition parties have disputed the government's figures. The continuing migrant presence has fuelled repeated protests and renewed debate over Spain's border and migration policies. #ceuta #spain #spanishborder #migrantcrisis #migrationcrisis #bordercrisis #migrantsurge #morocco #spainmoro
