Snow Resorts Australia says Australia's winter snow economy is worth almost $6 billion, with more than two million visitors annually. But revenue is at risk of melting away, as the warmest winter on record ends the ski season early. Natural snow coverage on the Australian alps is among the lowest ever recorded. The value of NSW resort, Thredbo, has been written down by half to $143 million from $292 million in 2022, as the parent company EVT considers selling it off along with a raft of other assets. While the industry says investment in snowmaking helps mitigate the changing climate, average temperatures are on the rise.
