Following on from the Undercover Migrant, Isabel Oakeshott and Christian Drogan investigate how France could disrupt people-smuggling networks and stop illegal Channel crossings without military intervention. Drawing on undercover tracking in northern France, they examine how transport links between migrant camps and the coast are used to facilitate crossings, and argue for tougher ID and ticket checks. They also investigate the camps around Calais and Dunkirk, questioning whether their growing permanence is helping smugglers. From dismantling coastal hubs to moving camps inland and examining the role of charities providing support, they question what France could do now to disrupt the smuggling operation.
