Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge backs cutting welfare spending to fund a rise in defence expenditure to 3% of GDP by 2030. He argues that Britain’s benefits system has created a “dependency culture” that can discourage people from working additional hours or accepting higher pay. Cartlidge says welfare reform must protect those genuinely unable to work while ending incentives that trap claimants in long-term dependency. He also calls for Britain to leave the European Convention on Human Rights and establish an immediate deportation deterrent against illegal migration. Have you got a story?
