Andy Burnham should take up plans for sweeping welfare cuts, and scrap the Chagos Islands deal, to raise £10 billion a year for defence, Kemi Badenoch will say in an intervention on military spending. The Conservative leader will set out how she would hike defence spending to 3% of GDP by 2030 in a speech on Thursday, in an attempt to draw a distinction with the Prime Minister, who has so far only given assurances that the Government will meet its defence commitments. She grilled Mr Burnham in the Commons at Prime Minister’s Questions about how he would meet the target, as well as the UK’s long-term commitment to Nato to raise defence spending to 5% by 2035. Speaking with Falklands War veteran Simon Weston CBE, Talk's Julia Hartley-Brewer says: "We've yet to get a full promise for the 3% target to be hit by either Healey or Andy Burnham, the new Prime Minister!" #defence #army #juliahartleybrewer #talk Have you got a story?
