Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez criticised what he described as a lack of European solidarity over a major migrant surge in Ceuta, saying Spain could not solve migration simply by building higher walls. Sanchez said around 72,000 people crossed irregularly into the Spanish North African enclave from neighbouring Morocco on July 30 and 31, while disputing claims that the border was open or migrants could not be returned. He said Spanish intelligence had ruled out, for now, links between the mobilisation and Moroccan, Russian or Israeli state actors, but said organised crime and disinformation campaigns had helped fuel the crossings. Sanchez also said European Commission findings identified accounts linked to Russian and pro-Israeli information ecosystems amplifying the crisis. Spain has approved a €309 million emergency package for Ceuta covering humanitarian reception, security, economic support and essential services. #ceuta #spain #sanchez #pedrosanchez #migration #migrantcrisi
