Conservative councillor Matthew Goodwin-Freeman and Liberal Democrat activist Matthew Hulbert clash over calls to restore the death penalty in Britain. Matthew (the Conservative one) argues that taxpayers should not have to spend tens of thousands of pounds each year imprisoning murderers serving whole-life terms. Citing modern DNA evidence, CCTV and digital tracking, he says Britain could introduce safeguards to reserve capital punishment for cases where guilt is considered certain. Matthew (the Liberal Democrat one) counters that no justice system is infallible and warns that an execution can never be reversed after a wrongful conviction. He argues that the most heinous killers should instead spend the rest of their lives behind bars. Have you got a story?
