Satellite imagery analysed by open-source intelligence analyst H I Sutton shows what appears to be a new naval drone facility on the Donuzlav Lake coastline near Novoozerne in Crimea, with 21 camouflaged shelters dug into the shoreline and protected by sand berms and camouflage netting in a layout that analysts say could support the storage, preparation and launch of unmanned surface vessels. Construction of the suspected facility reportedly began in February 2026, meaning parts of the site could theoretically already be operational, according to OSINT reporting, though the exact military purpose of the site remains unconfirmed by official sources. If operational as a naval drone base, the facility could provide Russia with a permanent platform for deploying unmanned surface vessels into the Black Sea, potentially putting Ukrainian shipping and ports including Odesa and Mykolaiv within reach and increasing Russian sortie rates while shortening deployment routes.
