A new UK law prioritising homegrown medical graduates for NHS specialty training has dramatically shifted access away from overseas-trained doctors. Nuffield Trust analysis found the share of “non-priority” doctors accepting training places fell from 28% in 2025 to just 1.8% in 2026.
